Teenager to lose her locks for charity

Stephanie Harrad is to lose her locks to raise money for Cancer Research UK

A NEWBURY teenager will be visiting a Thatcham hair salon in April, hoping to have sponsors to go through with her pledge to shave her head for charity.

Nineteen-year-old Stephanie Harrad aims to lose her locks at Claire's Hairdressing in the Old Mews, Thatcham, on April 18, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Miss Harrad had planned to complete the task in January but has pushed it back to April in an attempt to raise her fundraising total to £2,000.

She has raised more than £300 so far but hopes that if she reaches £1,500 she will shave her head, and has said that if she raises less than that amout, then she will shave half her head.

Miss Harrad added: "I chose Cancer Research UK because I want to help people in need and also to help prevent and find a cure for this disease, also because cancer is hereditary in my family.

"I'm doing it because the charity is not funded by Government.

"I have been thinking about doing it for quite a while.

"Most people do sponsored runs, but I wanted to do something different."

Miss Harrad will also be doing various other fundraising activities to help her make the £2,000 mark such as a sponsored silence, a dress down day and a wear it pink day.
