Teenagers vandalise Beenham Primary School

Four teenagers who vandalised Beenham Primary School have admitted their involvement in the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 15.

Police were called to a suspected burglary at the school and, upon entering, saw gym equipment was damaged, fire extinguishers set off, glass smashed and some of the children’s school display work destroyed.

The four suspects were quickly identified and arrested a short distance from the school.

Insp Burchall at Newbury police station said: “This was a mindless act by four people who have learnt a lesson.

“It is only with the understanding of the headteacher, their complete acceptance of wrongdoing and agreement to make amends to the school community that they have avoided more serious consequences through the criminal justice system.”

Those involved have expressed remorse for their actions and have apologised to the school.

They spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up the mess they’d made so that Beenham Primary could re-open on Monday morning.

The four teenagers will be paying for repairs and they have agreed to return to complete work at the school over the summer holidays to improve the learning environment for the children.
