Terror in shop as masked raiders strike

Robbers threatened staff and claimed to be carrying knives

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after staff at a Blockbuster store were robbed by masked raiders.

The terrifying incident happened at around 9.45pm on Friday, October 7, at the film and game chain's shop in School Road, Tilehurst.

Two men ran into the store, threatened staff and demanded they hand over money from the till.

One of the men then emptied the till, while the other man forced a member of staff to open the safe and emptied money from inside before leaving the store.

Both men were described as aged between 19 and 26 years, of medium build and between 5ft 9ins and 6ft tall.

The first man was wearing black tights over his head, a black padded jacket and jeans.

The second man was also wearing black tights over his head, a black jacket and dark bottoms that possibly had a red stripe at the side.

Det Con Tony Tuson said: “The men threatened the three members of staff that were in the shop at the time with a knife; however no weapon was actually seen.

“I would urge anyone who has information about this incident to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.”

He added: “A small white BMW was seen in the area around the store at the time of the incident. I would like to trace the owner of this vehicle to see if they can help with our investigation and rule them out of our enquiries.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the men prior to the robbery and saw where they came from, or witnessed them leaving the store and saw which direction they left in.”

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Tuson via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively the Crimestoppers charity can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
