Tesco store in Newbury stops sale of fresh and frozen items due to technical fault
A supermarket in Newbury has apologised to its customers after having to suddenly stop the sale of its fresh and frozen products today (Wednesday).
Tesco in London Road is currently experiencing a technical fault leading to the closure of a number of aisles.
Members of staff have been taking frozen and chilled items off shelves and putting them in large clear bags.
In a notice, the store said: "Due to a technical fault, we unfortunately have no fresh or frozen products on sale.
"We have logged this with our maintenance team and hope to have it fixed as soon as possible.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for shopping at Newbury Superstore."
A Tesco spokesperson said whilst Tesco is not able to sell these fridge and freezer items, other stock was being sold as normal.
While she could not confirm what "technical fault" the store was experiencing, she said the fridges and freezers "sometimes can't cope in the heat".
She said Tesco tries to donate what it can to food waste charities, but anything else will have to be thrown away.
She went on to say that it was hard to estimate how much food will be thrown away and that it depends on how stocked each shelf was at the time.
