Thames Valley Kings celebrate end of season

Thatcham-based wheelchair basketball team present awards

THE Thames Valley Kings, Berkshire’s oldest competitive wheelchair basketball club, celebrated with their end of season awards and re-branding launch at a special event last month.

Alistair Hargreaves picked up the award for most improved junior and Liam Barker scooped junior top scorer.

Adult top scorer went to Liam’s older brother, Reece, and adult most improved went to Wayne Burton.

Joe Humphreys was named as player’s player and coaches’ player.

The booby prizes of Dirty Ducks (awarded for player committing the most fouls) went to Liam Barker (juniors) and Ant Rixon (adults). A special award for supporter of the season went to Lou Barker.

The Kings also announced a new logo, the launch of their new sponsorship proposal and a new set of kits – returning to their former green colours.

Thames Valley Kings were established in 2004 by Jacqueline Scoins-Cass, when she was 19.

Mrs Scoins-Cass was made an MBE in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her voluntary services to the club.

Her husband Peter Scoins said that the launch had gone really well. He said: “Everything is fantastic and we’ve had lots of interest from sponsors.

“If people are looking to try something different, come along and try wheelchair basketball.”
