Thames Valley Police announce new deputy chief constable

Former acting deputy chief constable appointed

Thames Valley Police has announced the appointment of a new deputy chief constable (DCC).

John Campbell, who has most recently been acting DCC for the force, was appointed on Friday (15/5) by a selection panel, which included Chief Constable Francis Habgood.

Chief Constable Habgood said: “I am delighted to announce that John will be taking over the role of DCC for TVP. Having spent six years in the role myself, I firmly understand the opportunities and the challenges he will be presented with and I have every confidence that with John’s excellent experience he will deliver for the organisation.”

On his appointment, Mr Campbell, said it had been a "real honour" to have been selected and continued:

"I look forward to building on Francis’s successes in the role and supporting him in serving residents across the Thames Valley."

“There are financial challenges ahead for the force, but we have a good track record of reducing crime whilst managing the impact of those cuts. My key role, along with others, is to make sure our communities have a police service that meets their needs and keeps them safe.

DCC Campbell joined Thames Valley Police in July 2010, from Hampshire Constabulary and as assistant chief constable has held the Crime and Operations portfolio’s.

He began his police career at West Midlands Police in 1988, before transferring to Hampshire Constabulary in 2001. He has performed a number of roles within the police service including Uniform, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and specialist postings.
