Thames Water to pay £100 compensation to households affected by 'smelly' tap water

THAMES Water is to offer £100 in compensation to each household affected by last week’s tap water issue.
Thames Water issued a ‘do not drink’ notice to customers in the after reports of strange smelling tap water were confirmed on Thursday evening.
Tens of thousands water bottles were distributed to the affected areas on Friday and Saturday.
Engineers spent Saturday visiting properties in the area collecting water samples and worked into the early hours of Sunday morning sending them for quality testing.
On Sunday morning they were confident that the water was safe to drink again.
Initial findings on Saturday showed the issue was due to extremely low concentrations of a compound called styrene in the water. This chemical is a common component of pipe materials.
Thames Waters says that each household affected will receive a further letter of apology and a cheque for £100 in the next ten days.
