Motorists first reported it soon after lunchtime near the Hilton hotel on Donnington Road.
Thames Water spokesman Craig Rance said at 5pm: “It was certainly a giant jet of water from a mains burst. Our engineers are currently on scene trying to fix it. It’s not known what may have caused it at this stage.”
In case anyone was wondering, yes the hosepipe ban is still in effect, but thankfully a Drought Order will now not be imposed by Thames Water, however we are still, under their definition, experiencing a drought.
