Thatcham allotmenteers pick up prizes





Prize-winners, friends and plot holders gathered at the Burdwood Hall to see if they had picked up an award at Thatcham Allotment Gardening Club 2014 Best Kept Plot competition prize-giving evening.
The event, saw the mayor of Thatcham, Gary Johnson, and his wife Heather present the prizes, which were for the best kept plot and the best newcomer plot.
Bruce and Karen Townsend were deemed to have the best kept plot, with joint second place going to Liz Wood and Mark and Julia Thomas.
Joint third prize was shared between Linda and Kevin Adams and Howard and Tracy Martin.
The winners of the best newcomer plot were Colin and Aileen Banbury, with Colin Woodley named as runner- up.
The winners were awarded a cup and garden vouchers, with certificates also presented in both competitions.
Fun competitions were also held on the day, with rosettes being awarded to first, second and third places in each category.
Guests then enjoyed a barbecue supper after the prize-giving.
Organisers said that the overall competition standard was very good, which was reflected by the awarding of second and third place joint winners of the main competition.
