Thatcham Brownies represent Berkshire at special service

The 23 girls from the 5th Thatcham Brownies, along with their leaders who meet at Francis Baily School, were selected to represent Berkshire at a special South West Region Service Celebration of Guiding at Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday November 8, alongside nearly 900 members of the Girlguiding movement.
They paraded pageant-style with representatives carrying posters,
banners, fingerpost-style signposts, life-size puppets, and models of hot air balloons and spacecraft, up the aisles, which were made at workshops and
at their Brownie meetings.
The service covered the beginnings of the Girlguiding movement, the war years, 1960 to the present time and into the future. It was attended by an audience of Guiding members and distinguished guests, including Chief Guide, Gill Slocombe.
Brown Owl of the 5th Thatcham Brownies, Denise Newport, said: “Everyone seemed to soak up the atmosphere and took home many wonderful memories with them to share with others and we all felt so honoured to have been part of it.”
