Thatcham charity darts event is a hit

Tournament raises funds for Cancer Research

THATCHAM darts players with an eye for raising money held a charity tournament at the weekend.

Dan Meade and Stephen Fenemore organised the tournament at the King’s Head in Thatcham Broadway, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Mr Meade said: “Eighty per cent of the people in Thatcham love darts.

“We have all been affected by cancer in one way or another which is why we have done it in aid of Cancer Research UK.”

Eight women and 22 men entered the knock-out tournament with Bridget Archer beating Sarah Viney in the women’s final and Dave Archer beating Elliot Watts in the men’s final.

Mr Watts picked up the highest checkout award of 110.

Mr Meade said that they had set themselves a realistic fundraising target of £500, owing to it being their first charity event, but the players had ended up raising nearly £600.

“We are very happy about beating our target.

“It was a massive success, everyone that turned up whether they played or not had a great time.

“The response we had was amazing so we went for it,” Mr Mead said.

“We really enjoyed doing it and the feedback has been fantastic. They keep asking when’s the next one.”

Mr Meade also thanked all the local companies who had donated prizes to the raffle.
