Thatcham Christmas lights get turned on

Hundreds gathered in the Broadway last night for an evening of fun, music and community spirit

HUNDREDS of people gathered in the Broadway last night (Friday) to watch the Christmas lights being switched on.

The festive spirit started earlier in the evening with music from Kennet School pupils and Cold Ash Brass band, community caroling with Jamie Read and a mini panto from KATS.

Children also queued half way down High Street to have a visit with Santa.

During the evening the mayor, Lee Dillon, announced that, after months of hard work, the town had achieved Fairtrade status.

He said that it was very important that so many people turned out to support the town and wished everyone a merry Christmas before pushing the plunger with several local children.
