Thatcham Clerewater Place homes plan rejected
Elizabeth A Swainston Chartered Architects, on behalf of George House Developments, submitted the plans to knock down a two-storey block of eight office units in Clerewater Place and replace it with 14 two-storey houses.
The firm said that agents had found it difficult to attract tenants or buyers for the units because the location is isolated from other businesses and town centre facilities.
Thatcham Town Council raised no objections to the plan.
However, the district council turned it down because planners said it failed to add to the overall quality of the area, did not provide suitable outdoor amenity space and because the access road would need to be adopted but was deemed to be below the accepted standard.
