Thatcham Butchers applies to demolish and build new storage facility in Newbury
A Thatcham company has applied to build a new storage facility off Hambridge Road in Newbury.
Graham Wilks, of Thatcham Butchers, has applied to West Berkshire Council to demolish an existing single storey storage building — used by West Berkshire Van Hire — and to build a new two-storey storage and processing unit with associated parking and landscaping.
The site is located at the centre of the Hambridge Road/Bone Lane industrial estate, located on the eastern edge of Newbury town centre.
The proposal would raise the total of car parking spaces up to 14, plus two motorcycle spaces, five bike spaces and one disability space.
Thatcham Butchers started in 1985 in a small retail shop in Thatcham.
As trading grew, the business expanded to a bigger, purpose-built factory in Arnhem Road, Newbury in 2004 — named after the Battle of Arnhem, fought in 1944 as part of the failed Allied Operation Market Garden.
The application is due to be decided on Friday, October 25.
