Thatcham company features on Top Gear's best of British feature

The transmission technology specialists based in Gables Way featured in BBC2’s Top Gear on Sunday night, in a rousing and unashamedly patriotic feature praising the great and good of the British vehicle manufacturing industry.
In a typically understated piece, presenter, Jeremy Clarkson explained that Xtrac had been involved in producing transmission systems for IndyCar racers, every Dakar winner since 2009, 35 of the 56 starters at this year's Le Mans including the car that won it and the Marussia Formula 1 car.
He said: "All of them have gear boxes made in that factory in this little industrial estate in Berkshire."
Peter Digby, managing director of Xtrac, which employs 275 people said that he had little idea of what had been filmed by the BBC but that he was really pleased with the outcome.
He told the Newbury Weekly News: "It’s great because the company is owned by the employees so it just feels that bit better because the efforts have been recognised by something as important as Top Gear.
"I thought the show was brilliant.
"I’m a big fan anyway but it was great that they were able to pay tribute to the British automotive industry and bang the drum about how important it is."
He added: "We are all proud of the recognition of the brand which we have been trying to build.
"It’s great for engineering and manufacturing as well, as it has always been low down in the list of sexy industries.
"We have had some great feedback from the guys on the factory floor.
"Top Gear goes all around the world and is seen in hundreds of countries - it's going to be going forever so we will see the fallout for a long time.
"All this from little old Thatcham."
Following the show, Newbury MP Richard Benyon said on Twitter, "Great to see Xtrac getting a mention on Top Gear.
"A great British success story based in Thatcham, West Berkshire."
