Thatcham couple find a snake in their (car) boot
Charlie Wise and husband Guy got the shock of their lives when they arrived home in Swansdown Walk, Thatcham, and opened the boot of the VW Golf.
The reptile was coiled up inside.
At first Mrs Wise said she and her husband thought it was an outsized rubber toy...until it opened its eyes and flicked out its tongue.
Mrs Wise, aged 23, added that her husband had jokingly gone to throw the ‘toy’ at her until the realisation struck them both.
She said: “We both screamed very loudly, slammed the boot shut and ran off.”
The couple said they contacted the car’s previous owner who admitted he had lost the animal two months ago - but that they never heard any more after asking him to collect his pet.
The couple called a friend to remove the animal from the boot and after its ordeal they tried to care for the reptile by giving it water and keeping it warm.
The Wises called the RSPCA but they claimed a reptile handler for the association advised them that no-one was available to collect it for at least 24 hours.
Mrs Wise - who said she is no fan of snakes, has two pet cats and works as a child minder - meant that she was unable to keep the snake, who she dubbed Marvin, at home.
Luckily help was at hand from Berkshire Reptile Rescue in Bracknell.
After friends told her about the centre, she drove Marvin there and Graham Martin (pictured with Mrs Wise), who runs the centre, said: “The snake is now with me at Berkshire Reptile Rescue and I have a home lined up for when it’s ready.”
