Thatcham couple happy together for 60 years
Geoff and Betty Glasspool met when they were aged 19 and 17, respectively, when he was serving as a soldier at the army depot in Station Road.
Little did he know that the woman passing by the depot, who he asked to get him some fish and chips because he couldn’t leave guard duty, would become his wife.
The pair, who have lived in the same house in The Hollands for the past 54 years, married on March 8, 1952, at St Mary’s Church, Church Gate.
Mrs Glasspool said that she thought the secret to a successful marriage was taking the up and downs together.
Mr Glasspool said: “We have always been happy and we have
always been there for each other.”
The couple, who have two children, three granddaughters and three great-grandsons, will celebrate with a party with family and friends on Saturday.
