Thatcham driving range plans refused

Plans for the 12 lane golf driving range at Lower Henwick Farm have been refused by West Berkshire Council

PLANS for a golf driving range in Thatcham have been refused by West Berkshire Council.

The plans for the driving range at Lower Henwick Farm, Turnpike Road, were submitted by Carter Jonas on behalf of John Mitchell but have been refused by West Berkshire planning officers on several grounds.

Among the reasons, it was deemed that the nets and bunker would not add anything positive to the landscape, because it is in the green gap between Newbury and Thatcham and because there would be a need for increased facilities to meet demand if it proved to be a successful venture.

The land is currently used agriculturally for growing crops and permission was being sought to turn it into a 12 lane driving range.
