Thatcham Festival raises more than £1,000 for mayor's charities

Exhibitors praised for their dedication during two-week event

THE 16th annual Thatcham Festival has ended and those involved have been praised for their dedication.

The fortnight-long festival, featuring 65 events, drew to a close on Friday, October 21, with the Festival Voices at St Mary’s Church.

The festival is able to offer events free of charge because of the generosity of groups and individuals and sponsorship from local businesses.

The mayor of Thatcham, Ellen Crumly, attended most of the events – often going to four in one day.

Mrs Crumly encouraged residents to support her two charities, Breast Cancer Care and The League of Friends at West Berkshire Community Hospital.

People dug deep and raised £1,033, which, when added to other funds, will make a significant sum for these two charities.

“As mayor I was delighted to attend as many events as possible and show my support to Thatcham’s wonderful community groups and organisations,” Mrs Crumly said.

“I felt very humbled to meet so many talented and committed people, many who donate their time for free and I was astounded at the diversity of the festival – there was literally something for everyone to enjoy.

“I am incredibly grateful to all the organisations involved in making it such
a memorable and high standard of
festival and to the outstanding generosity of those who donated to my appointed charities.

“I thank you all and genuinely look forward to next year’s festival.”
