Thatcham fish and chip shop gutted in blaze

Watch manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Richard Young, said two pumps were called from the station at 10pm to the Best Fry fish and chip shop, at the Burdwood Centre in Station Road.
“On arrival the chip shop was alight with three foot high flames coming out of the front door,” said Mr Young, adding the shop was situated in a row of other shops:
“Luckily it was the only shop affected,” he said.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using two hosereels.
No-one was hurt, after four staff members evacuated the premises before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters used a high pressure fan to ventilate the premises of smoke.
The cause was put down to a faulty fryer.
Firefighters left the scene at 12.30am.
