Thatcham friends take on London Marathon in style

Not all superheroes wear capes, some wear running gear, marathon medals and smiles.

For two Thatcham women, daisy covered tutus were also part of the uniform for their London Marathon 2023 experience.

Friends Caroline Seward and Sarah Spencer took to London’s streets at the weekend with the record breaking 48,000 participants.

The pair are raising money for local bereavement charity Daisy’s Dream – who help children and families experiencing illness or those suffering the loss of someone else.

Miss Seward, a beauty business owner who also works as British Airways cabin crew, finished the challenge in four hours and 55 minutes with her friend following closely behind in five hours 15 minutes.

Between them, more than £18,000 has been raised so far.

The women, who joined three others running for the West Berkshire charity have now exceeded £38,000.

“The atmosphere was amazing, people were absolutely buzzing,” said Miss Seward.

“There were brass bands out, people DJing from balconies as we went past their flats.

“It was really difficult to spot your friends and family in the crowds because people were out in their thousands.”

She added: “We ran for Daisy’s dream because it is a local charity that relies solely on fundraising.

“Sarah knows families that have been supported by the charity and I have through meeting other people and there have been stories that have really touched my heart.”

The pair are still raising money on each of their fundraising pages.
