Thatcham fun day cancelled but organisers hope to re-schedule

The annual event, which is sponsored by the Newbury Weekly News, had been due to take place at Henwick Field but overnight on Saturday 15mm of rain fell in one hour, causing sections of the site to become flooded.
Organisers, Thatcham Town Council took the decision on Sunday morning to cancel the event as vehicle movement across the grass would have caused damage to the site, which is used by local sports groups on a daily basis.
The fun day had been due to include the Spring Charity Fundraisers’ Junior Fun Run, shorter race for young children and a mascot race as well as Cold Ash Brass, demonstrations and free taster sessions and a tug-o-war.
The town council is hoping to try and re-schedule for a date in August.
