Thatcham Guides earn their stripes at cooking contest
They beat off competition from three other units at the contest held at the Moorside Centre, and judged by county vice president, Jill Newcombe, and Trefoil Guild member, Judy Austin.
The teams taking part had to make a vegetarian meal using five ingredients – a large mushroom, a tin of mixed beans, a sweet potato, a banana and some crème fraîche – plus store cupboard ingredients.
The Penguins – patrol leader Katherine Stewart, Courtney Drane, Leanne Blyth, Ruth Hay, Ellen Morris and Catherine Shore – made a vegetarian cottage pie, followed by a caramelised banana with lemon crème fraîche for pudding.
They were presented with the trophy and an apron each.
