Thatcham Town Council is introducing a series of events to the town.

The new range includes a 10k run, Christmas markets and Thatcham in Bloom.

Thatcham in Bloom will involve a visual enhancement via floral displays across the town.

The Christmas Market has been planned for December 2 – and further Saturdays if there is a demand.

An enlarged French Market is also on the cards.

The council has also planned for markers at Henwick Field mapping out a shorter 1k run.

The new administration says it is changing the way it delivers events and services.

It is offering support to groups and encouraging them to get involved with the council in doing this.

Town councillors also say they are keen to be more involved in assisting TTC officers to deliver an improved programme.

They say there is a need for local businesses and residents to help facilitate and coordinate these projects and are inviting locals to help shape the future of the town.

Those who are interested can contact council officers at Thatcham Town Council – contact details are on the town council website.

The 10k run is being led by councillor Ben Schiffer-Harte (Lib Dem, Thatcham North East), along with other councillors and interested local residents.

Mr Schiffer-Harte said: “The 10k race is an opportunity to bring the community of Thatcham together to put our town on the running map.

“I am delighted to be able to bring my prior experience of running events to this exciting new project.”

He has been praised by his Lib Dem colleagues at the town council for the progress made on this particular project.

Justin Pemberton (Lib Dem, Thatcham West) said: “The progress made from the initial phase planning has immensely improved the town council's ability to potentially stage this event, a little over six-months from now.

“Councillor Schiffer-Harte's energy and input has been invaluable.”

The council added: “By managing the council’s budget as efficiently as possible at a time when people are struggling with the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades, we will be able to reduce officer costs and offer an enhanced provision.”
