Thatcham level crossing app goes live

The level crossing has been a notorious congestion hotspot in the town, with people using it to avoid traffic in the centre of Newbury when travelling from Thatcham to Basingstoke.
But Thatcham resident Steve Ardagh-Walter thinks he can provide a short-term solution to people’s level crossing woes.
The LevelX app alerts drivers as to when the gates are due to close, allowing motorists to plan their journey in advance.
The system uses data feeds from Network Rail as well as a camera feed to provide the exact closing times of the gates.
Mr Ardagh-Walter, who works in the IT industry, said it had taken three years to get the app up and running from a design concept to launch and a trial period for the app has just finished.
He said that he was pleased with the positive reaction from the trial and was looking forward to the launch.
