Network Rail technicians repair bridge after four hours

A road barrier at Thatcham's level crossing broke down earlier today [Wednesday].

The barriers were first reported to have malfunctioned at 12pm this afternoon.

Network Rail said that technicians were on their way and that Thames Valley Police has been advised of the situation.

A spokesperson said: "Until the techs are on site we can’t really establish how long the issue will go on for, but we are expecting updates soon."

Senior Technician at West Berkshire Council Heather Wells later said it would take at least two hours to repair.

Speaking shortly before 2pm she said: "The level crossing barriers on Station Road, Crookham Hill in Thatcham are currently stuck in the down position.

"Network Rail have Engineers on site and hope to resolve the issue within the next 2 hours or so.

"Thames Valley Police have closed the road and drivers will need to find an alternative route."

Network Rail confirmed later that the barriers had been repaired and were working correctly as at 3.24pm.
