Thatcham man avoids prison for drug offences

22-year-old caught with cannabis

A Thatcham man has received a suspended prison sentence for possessing drugs.

James Heath, aged 22, was stopped by police officers and found in possession of cannabis in Urquart Road in November last year.

He was arrested at the scene and charged on March 24 this year.

Heath, of Dickson Glade, Thatcham, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to supply cannabis at Reading Crown Court on June 16.

He was sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £540 in costs.

Investigating officer, PC Jonny Lanebased at Newbury police station, said: “This case demonstrates that drug dealing will not be tolerated in Thatcham and West Berkshire as a whole.

“Thames Valley Police will deal robustly with drug dealers and bring perpetrators to justice.”
