Thatcham man banned for drink driving

Police officers who tailed David Sanderson, of Park Lane, Thatcham, could smell alcohol on his breath when they caused him to stop at 8.30pm, the court was told last Thursday.
Claire French, prosecuting, said: “He told the officers he had last had a drink about 10 minutes prior to his getting behind the wheel.”
Tests showed 55mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35mcg.
The 61-year-old admitted driving a Chrysler Grand Cherokee in Thatcham on February 18 this year.
He has no previous convictions.
Steve Molloy, defending, said: “It’s the same old story. He thought he was alright to drive and believed he was under the limit. It is a relatively low reading but he must take the consequences.
“This has served as a salutary wake-up call. The shame of being in court is probably the greatest punishment for him.”
Magistrates banned Mr Sanderson from driving for 12 months and fined him £405 with £85 costs and statutory surcharge of £41.
