Thatcham man scoops Newbury's strongest novice title
A THATCHAM man has scooped the title of Newbury's strongest novice 2014, after some eye popping strongmen competitions in the Market Place - which continued until late this afternoon, (Sunday) with a further competition for England's strongest junior.
Laiten Canning, aged 23 of Thatcham gave an awesome show of strength to beat off some 11 competitors, in several strands of the competition including the Farmers Walk involving carrying two loads of 100kg per hand at a fast walk to reach the line .
Also Basingstoke's strongest novice, the young champion eats a minimum 4,500 calories each day including chicken, rice, and "Lots of porridge" he said, "I eat six meals a day and porridge for two of them," said Mr Canning.
The Farmer's Walk proved a tough test, he said, due to wider hand grips.
