Thatcham mayor holding barn dance for Sport in Mind and PALS West Berkshire

The mayor of Thatcham is calling for residents to leave their inhibitions at the door and join his barn dance.

“Join the mayhem,” said councilor Mark Lillycrop, who is hosting a barn dance for his first fundraising event.

He is raising money for his two mayoral charities of choice Sport in Mind and PALS West Berkshire.

He said the theme was chosen because he and his wife, Jenny, have always enjoyed barn dances.

“They’re a lot of fun,” he said.

“And, very important in my case, you don’t need to be able to dance at all.

“The caller tells you exactly what to do so that you can join in with the mayhem and leave your inhibitions at the door.

“I can’t believe that I’m already three months into my year as mayor of Thatcham.

“From the Family Fun Day to garden parties, pub openings, school and charity events, there’s so much going on in the town and surrounding area.

“Every invitation is a privilege and Jenny and I attend as many events as we can.”

The charity barn dance will fall on Friday, September 22.
