Thatcham mayor's big quiz raises funds

Two local charities benefit from charity quiz

THE brainpower of people in Thatcham helped raise funds for two local charities at the weekend.

Teams from across the town raised £571 for the West Berkshire Therapy Centre and The Rainbow Rooms at the West Berkshire Community Hospital, at the Thatcham Town mayor’s Big Quiz, held at the Frank Hutchings Community Hall.

It was a close finish with the top five teams finishing only five points apart. The winning team The Four Mayors passed on their prizes to the teams that finished second, third and fourth.

The amount raised on the evening brings the fundraising total to just over £3,500 for the year so far – a record figure for mayoral fundraising in Thatcham in recent years.

Mayor Gary Johnson thanked everyone for attending and said: “It was such a fun evening.

“It has been my privilege to host so many events throughout my year as mayor and to raise money for such worthy charities.”

He also thanked Beale Park, Bucklebury Farm Park, Newbury Racecourse and Regency Park Hotel for donating prizes for the raffle.
