Thatcham Mayor's street party surprises
The Mayor of Thatcham has been surprising street parties over the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday.
It has now been a month since he was sworn in as town mayor and councillor Jeff Brooks is meeting as many people as possible.
He began his party crawl on Friday (June 3) at Victor Road where he met with those celebrating 70 years of the Queen’s reign.
“Every one of them appreciated it and said you made our afternoon,” Mr Brooks said.
“There was a real sense of community, it was brilliant to see.”
The mayor, suited in Jubilee themed attire, spent around 25 minutes with each of the ten parties he managed to attend.
Throughout the weekend he went “everywhere that [he] knew there would be a party” and said hello, making sure he “spoke to everybody”.
“They all wanted to take pictures,” he added.
