Thatcham mother’s body is a blank canvas for charity tattoo

Vickie Davies, aged 34, of Pound Lane, is taking part in this year’s Newbury Race for Life and wants to raise extra funds for the charity after a friend, who lives in Turnpike, was diagnosed with breast cancer recently.
Initially, Ms Davies was going to shave her head but was advised that this was no longer a unique challenge, so she has decided to get a tattoo – and its up to the people who sponsor her where it will go and what colour it will be.
The design will be a cancer ribbon but anyone who donates will have their name put into a draw, and the one drawn after the deadline will get to decide what colour the tattoo will be, to signify a particular cancer charity, and where it will go – within reason, of course
The winner will also receive a voucher for Newbury tattoo studio Inkslingers, which is providing the tattoo free of charge.
Ms Davies said: “I want to make a really big thing of it. It would be nice to raise a decent amount of money.”
Areas that Ms Davies is prepared to be tattooed include her arms, anywhere below the knee, back, side or back of her neck or back of her hands.
Ms Davies said that part of the reason she wanted to raise more money was because her daughter was lucky enough to be part of the generation now being given cancer jabs to help prevent them developing the disease later in life.
She said: “I have a 13-year-old daughter and when she goes back to school, she will be having one of the cancer jabs and I just think, if it wasn’t for the money that people raise, it would not be possible.
“Watching what my friend is going through, I would just crumble, but she said something kicks in to make you keep going.
“It’s frightening seeing it so close to home. I could not bear leaving my kids behind so whatever I can do, I’m willing.”
Ms Davies is hoping to raise £500, and she will have the tattoo done in May.
