Thatcham Park School celebrates 10 years

Fun day had by all as jugglers drop in

HAPPY birthday Thatcham Park CE Primary School.

It’s been 10 years since children turned up to the Park Avenue school wearing their distinctive jade green sweatshirts.

The school celebrated its 10th anniversary recently with lots of cakes and circus skills.

The children tried their hand at juggling and watched London- based entertainers Slap and Tickle.

Thatcham Park teacher Karen Jones said that everybody had really enjoyed the day and the children left feeling amazed by the circus display.

The weather held out for the children to have a picnic lunch.

Each class also lit a candle for the birthday celebration and spent the morning decorating cakes.

The day also provided an opportunity for the children to say what they thought of their school.

Mrs Jones said that pupils thought the school was a happy and safe place where they learned lots of interesting things.

Thatcham Park school opened on September 1, 2005 following the merger of St Mary’s Junior and Dunston Park Infant schools.

The reported that the schools merged because there were too many empty seats across the district.

And it was hoped that the single primary school would provide a focal point for the community with no need to change schools and avoid duplicating governing bodies and administrations.

Year 4 teacher Mrs Taylor, who moved from Dunston Park Infants to Thatcham Park, said that the school had changed a lot in 10 years. This was mostly because of the increased intake and new building, which opened in 2008 but it was nice to have everyone together.
