Thatcham pool remains closed
Electrical problem damages pump at Kennet Leisure Centre pool
ANYONE hoping for a swim at Kennet Leisure Centre, in Thatcham, during half term this week, will have been disappointed to find the pool closed, due to an electrical problem.
Alex Godfrey, general manager for the contract with Parkwood Leisure, who manage the Stoney Lane based centre on behalf of West Berkshire Council, said on Tuesday (Oct 25) that the pool had been closed for most of the day, after the pool's electrical board tripped out.
He said an electrician was on site trying to resolve the problem and it was hoped to re-open the pool Tuesday evening.
However, the swimming pool remained closed today (Wednesday Oct 26), and centre manager, Mark Ranson, said it had since been discovered the electrical failure had also caused damage to the pool's pump.
“We have people on site looking at the problem, but no definite date or time for the swimming pool to re-open at the moment,” said Mr Ranson.
“Obviously we don't want to re-open the pool if it's not right,” he said, while pointing out the gym and squash courts and all other facilities at the centre remained open.
