Thatcham praised for high Poppy Appeal total

They raised £29,8889.58, which goes to The Royal British Legion who provide care to members of the armed forces and their families.
Thatcham legion branch chairman, Ian Borland, said he was extremely grateful, especially as the branch thought it had no chance of coming close to the previous year’s figure of around £24,000.
Mr Borland said that the ceramic poppies at the Tower of London and national commemoration events marking the centenary of the beginning of the First World War were contributing factors to the high total.
“The people of Thatcham have been really good,” he said. “Pass my thanks on to the community they have been very generous.”
The donations were collected around the town, with more than £700 taken at a band service. Mr Borland added that it wasn’t just Thatcham that had broken its record, with amounts rising at branches across the county.
