Thatcham primary school placed in special measures
The Thatcham school was deemed to be overall 'inadequate' after its inspection last month.
The report said that the pupils did not achieve well enough, that the teachers did not make sure that the work was at the right level for the pupils, that the pupils were not always engaged and interested by lessons and that the governing body had not done enough to challenge senior leaders about the school’s performance.
However, strengths were identified including that the school was well liked by its parents and carers, that the pupils were taught about internet safety and that the breakfast club was well-organised.
Headteacher at the Sagecroft Road school, Joan Blofeld, said:"A programme of development is already underway and will be finalised over the Easter break.
"We are working hard to address issues identified by the inspectors and am confident that we are continually improving."
West Berkshire Council's executive member for education, Irene Neill (Con, Aldermaston), said: "Whitelands is taking action and I'm sure that once the development programme is finalised they will go from strength to strength."
During its inspection last year, the school was deemed to be satisfactory.
