Thatcham Refillable relaunch Tub2Pub recycling campaign

Thatcham Refillable is collecting sweet tubs to recycle into cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This is the third year that the organisation is supporting the Greene King pubs Tub2Pub campaign which runs throughout January.

The tubs will be taken to The Bear pub in Hungerford and will then be sent to DCW Polymers' plastic reprocessing centre in Exeter.

They will be shredded and granulated for sale to manufacturers, in place of virgin plastic.

Each tub equates to approximately eight pence.

Tubs must be made from plastic like Roses, Heroes, and Quality Street. Thatcham Refillable is also accepting Jacobs Square Cracker tubs.

Metal tins are not taken as these can go in the green recycling bag with tins.

The tubs can be dropped off at Thatcham Refillable stall at the Thatcham Market tomorrow (Friday).

Jenny Kirby, from Thatcham Refillable, said: “It’s all to raise awareness and all it takes is one person to do something.

“This is the third year, I think, that we have been involved.”

She said the campaign has seen growth in the local area.

“In the second year we had more because I contacted the Newbury Weekly News and shared it on 75 different Facebook groups,” she added.

She asks that people please make sure the tubs are clean, dry and empty before dropping them off.

The tubs are only being collected in January.
