Thatcham road to re-open this afternoon (Thursday) after diesel spill

West Berkshire Council has confirmed they expect Lower Way will re-open early this afternoon (Thursday), possibly around 1pm.
The highways department at the council took over the clean-up operation this morning, after Thames Valley Police closed the road, following the spillage of some 200 litres of diesel.
According to Ben Hurward, watch manager of white watch at Newbury Fire Station, one pump was called at 5.45am from Newbury, following the spillage.
"The prop shaft of the lorry broke causing the diesel to spill," said Mr Hurward.
The fire service left the scene after about half an hour, after making the vehicle safe.
