Thatcham Rotary Club duck race fundraiser on the Kennet
Earlier in the year, the club announced that, after 30 years, it was to stop hosting the annual firework fundraising event, as the location was no longer available, revenue had declined and there was greater competiton from other displays. Therefore, other fundraising activities were needed.
The duck race will be held from 2pm on Sunday, September 8, on the Kennet river at the Rowbarge in Woolhampton.
Each duck will cost £1 and they will be raced down the river. The winner will receive £250, second place £100 and third £50.
All the profits from the day will go to mainly local charities, with some going towards supporting the world eradication of polio campaign.
Charities helped in the past have included West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust, Dingley Family and Specialist Early Years Centres and Castle School.
The group also wants to buy a defibrillator for the town centre.
