Thatcham mum shares her TikTok triumph

A MOTHER-of-two has achieved social media stardom from her Thatcham home.

Joanne Elliot, 40, now has 473,000 followers and 14.3 million likes on video-sharing app TikTok.

She built her audience by creating her own skits and relatable comedy sketches.

Mrs Elliot said: “I basically downloaded the app at the end of March 2020 in lockdown.

“I had a little go at the dance trends and quickly moved on to lip synching other people’s sounds. I then started doing my own sounds and my followers started flying in.

“I do my own sounds, sketches, point-of-view skits.”

Her profile took off in November last year when she made a Christmas video that went viral.

Her audience has now gone far beyond her local area.

Mrs Elliot said: “Thirty-nine per cent of my followers are in the UK and 24 per cent are in America. It is scary but it’s exciting.

“I get inspiration from everywhere people tell me stories. I put my own spin on it.”

Mrs Elliot has now been recognised in other parts of the country while out with family.

She said: “We were in Cornwall and this girl said: 'Can I have my picture taken?'

"Her mum said: 'She is a big fan of yours.'

“It made me feel so happy. A lot of my fans are children.”

Mrs Elliot plans to continue with TiksTok and see where it takes her.

She said: “I want to keep growing. My next goal is half a million followers.”
