Thatcham school Bop to the Top in lip sync battle for Newbury Cancer Care
It may be Frozen outside but there was Grease lightning at Kennet School who stepped up to the mic for a charity lip sync battle.
The first event of its kind saw students and staff lip syncing to pop classics and iconic tunes from musicals in aid of Newbury Cancer Care.
Danny, Sandy, ABBA and the Spice Girls were just some of the artists covered, raising a total of £400 for the charity.
The event, which fell during school hours – at lunchtime – was devised by members of the student leadership team.
Flares, knee high boots and Geri Halliwell’s iconic Union Jack dress were just some of the costumes on show, with both the students and staff pulling out all of the stops to be the winner that takes it all.
The school congratulated the sixth form students for organising the successful event.
Of course, no contest is fit without crowning a dancing queen – Grease’s Danny and Sandy, played by head of sociology Dr Jon Gemmel and head of health and social care and child development teacher Lisa Norrish.
Special recognition awards went to student James Matos for his stand out solo-performance and the sixth form leadership team as ABBA.
The Spice Girls, played by the Heads of House, won best group and the best solo performance went to sixth form learning mentor Cath Forbes for Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.
Headteacher Grace Rigg said: “Sixth Form students and staff shone during the lip sync battle.
“It was a joyous lunchtime and we’re very proud of all who took part and entertained us.”
