Thatcham school praised by Ofsted
Acting headteacher says "significant" improvements have been made at Spurcroft Primary School
SPURCROFT Primary School in Thatcham has received a glowing Ofsted report.
The school was deemed by inspectors to be good in several areas including the overall effectiveness, the school's capacity for sustained improvement, outcomes for individuals and groups of pupils and the quality of the teaching.
The Spurcroft Road school also received two outstanding scores for the school's safeguarding procedures and the extent to which pupils contributed to the school and wider community.
Reporting inspector, Graham Lee, said that the school had gone from satisfactory last year and that the leaders had worked very effectively with staff to improve teaching and learning.
He said: "As a consequence, pupils' progress has accelerated, particularly over the last year, and their academic achievement is now good.
"The school takes very good care of its pupils and arrangements for their safeguarding are exemplary.
"As a result, pupils feel safe and secure and most enjoy everything that school has to offer.
"This is reflected in their above average attendance and good behaviour."
Chairman of governors at the school, David Seward, said that the whole governing body was thrilled with the success of the inspection and praised staff for their efforts in ensuring that the school went from strength to strength.
Acting headteacher, Beulah Letchford, said: "We have made significant improvements since our last inspection which has been down to hard work from every member of the team and we are delighted this has been recognised by Ofsted.
"Parents, pupils and staff can be very proud of their achievements."
