Thatcham Parsons Down Partnership presented Environmental Champion Award
A Thatcham school is celebrating its recent accolade as the “first in the town” to achieve plastic-free status.
On Tuesday, April 23, the then presiding Mayor of Thatcham, Mark Lillycrop, joined Parsons Down for a special Eco Assembly to celebrate all of the achievements of the Eco-Committee.
He presented the school with an Environmental Champion Award on behalf of Thatcham Town Council.
The award recognised the Eco-Committee’s ongoing work through both Eco-Schools and Plastic Free Communities.
The school was nominated for the award by Jenny Kirby, owner of Thatcham Refillable and member of Plastic Free Communities, who said: “They are the first school in Thatcham to achieve plastic-free school status.
“They cram so much into each term and are a real inspiration.
“The children and teachers are passionate and enthusiastic.”
Eco councillors, Ollie and James, said: “We were very proud of ourselves and everyone at school for being awarded an Eco Champion Award.
“We were quite nervous about standing up in assembly and meeting the mayor, but he was very friendly and we liked it when everyone clapped.
“Everyone at school has played a big part in achieving this award.”
Headteacher, Catherine Bull, added: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate the Eco-Committee and everyone at Parsons Down for receiving the award.
“Their collective dedication to looking after the environment demonstrates that no one is too small to make a difference.
“Through their inspiring efforts, they have shown our pupils and community the profound impact a committed group can have in protecting our planet for future generations.”
