Thatcham siblings bring home the tumbling medals
Maddie Gardiner, aged nine, and her brother Loui, aged 11, of Longbridge Road, entered the British Open Tumbling Championships, recently held in Stoke-on-Trent.
It was a two-day event and both had to compete in heats before getting to the finals.
Maddie won two bronze medals and one gold (nine to 10-year-olds) and Loui, who competed in the 11 to 12-year-olds, won a bronze medal.
They both train at Basingstoke Gymnastics Club.
Their mother Claire said that although it is not an Olympic sport, London 2012 did inspire her children.
She added: “I thought it was amazing. Both were really proud of their achievements.
"The Olympics were definitely an inspiration – it is good that they want to represent their country.”
