Thatcham station congestion plan decision expected today (Mon)

During 2012, West Berkshire Council carried out a study to consider options to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the vicinity of the level crossing.
The proposals, which were revealed earlier in the year, included reducing the size of the layby in Station Road to provide extra carriageway space and creating a new right-hand turn lane into the Royal Mail sorting office.
The proposal also includes resurfacing the pavement and carriageway from the level crossing to the Pipers Way roundabout.
Thatcham Town Council gave a unanimous thumbs down to the plan, saying that it would not reduce congestion and that it might encourage drivers to take risks such as overtaking.
The district council’s executive member for highways and transport, Pamela Bale (Con, Pangbourne) is expected to make a decision on Monday.
