Thatcham VE Day Best of British Market on The Broadway a ‘resounding success’
Thatcham residents made the most of the town’s VE Day 80 Best of British Market despite the cold weather.
The market, held on Bank Holiday Monday (May 5), proved a resounding success as the town came together to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The Broadway was transformed to echo the spirit of the street parties held at the end of the Second World War in 1945.
Stalls offered a range of British produce and crafts and many members of the community embraced the vintage theme with 1940s attire.
Families and friends shared picnics and enjoyed the fire engine, bubbles and face painting.
And the Thatcham Women’s Institute kept everyone warm and smiling with their generous servings of free cake and jam, while the Royal British Legion organised the tombola.
Thatcham Town Council wishes to thank the local businesses that joined in the celebration.
A memorial service to commemorate VE Day will be held at Thatcham War Memorial, by the Bath Road, at 11am on Thursday, May 8, hosted by the Royal British Legion and Thatcham Memorial Foundation.
