Thatcham vehicle experts take part in charity torch relay

The Thatcham company is one of 95 taking part in I Love Claims special torch replay to raise funds and awareness for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
The torch will travel 1,756 miles around the country from company to company.
Eight members of staff from the motor insurer vehicle research centre, completed their leg of the journey, carrying the torch nine miles from their base in Colthrop to the Audatex headquarters in Theale.
They used a variety of innovative ways to transport the torch including a short paddle down The Kennet and Avon Canal in an inflatable boat, before completing the journey with bicycle and leg power.
They raised £500 from donations from staff and the company’s charitable fund.
Iain Wallace, from Thatcham Research Centre, said: “Whilst the whole country is gearing up for the Olympics this summer, a torch relay seemed the perfect way for our industry to play a part and to raise money for an extremely worthy cause in the process.
"A big thank you must go to all the Thatcham staff who showed their generosity, as well as fitness, by getting involved.”
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity gives individually tailored emotional and practical support to families that have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
Nicola O’Donnell, senior corporate partnership manager at Rainbow Trust said: "Rainbow Trust relies on fundraising for 95 per cent of its income, so activities like this are vital for us to carry on offering the support to families across the country when they need it most.”
