Thatcham woman arrested following fire




Forty-year old woman held in custody following blaze at block of flats in Thatcham last night (Wednesday)

A THATCHAM woman has been arrested following a fire at a block of flats in Thatcham during the early hours of this morning (Thurs).

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman, Alice Adderley, confirmed a 40-year-old woman had been arrested following the fire, on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger life and was currently being held in custody.

The block of four flats, in Rotary Way, was evacuated following the fire, but damage is isolated to just one of the flats.

Two fire engines and 12 firefighters were called at 12am, to the fire in a ground floor bedroom.

No-one was hurt, with the incident stopped at 1.30am.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed they also attended the scene, at 12.09am.

Fire crews from Dee Road and also Whiteley Wood in Reading were sent to Newbury to assist and provide cover at Newbury fire station during the incident.
