Watch manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Richard Young, said one pump was called at 4.45pm to Rosemoor Gardens, to a bonfire made of gathered sticks, extinguished by firefighters using buckets of water.
“Due to the dry conditions, there was a potential for the fire spreading,” said Mr Young, adding:
“In the summer holidays, what could be fun for children could prove dangerous.”
Firefighters left the scene after five minutes, after informing police of the incident.
